About this deal

The pen heats up to extremely hot degrees to melt the filament. If you are not careful, you can end up burning your fingers. Make sure you donít let children below 12 years play with the 3D pen. Older children can be allowed to use the pen with adult supervision. Control - For more precise and intricate designs, you need to be able to control your pen. Look for a pen that you can control the temperature and speed of and which features an adjustable product flow so that you can regulate the rate if you are more advanced and confident operating your pen. Just starting out, you might prefer to go for something with a continuous flow option so that you can focus on your technique and getting used to using and controlling the pen itself. Intelligent controls will become more valuable, the more advanced your method and skill level becomes. When it comes to performance, we tested both quite rigorously and found that the Start+ pen was easier to use than the Create. As you can see from their different designs, the Create and Start are directed at slightly different age groups. Greater control using fast & slow speeds. Fast mode allows you to Doodle big areas faster, & slow mode is perfect for intricate details.

Now with dual drive, the all-new Create+ is re-engineered to give you an ultra-smooth and enhanced Doodling experience. Improvements include greater control in fast/slow speeds for different Doodling techniques, more reliable performance with different plastic types, greater durability, and new monochromatic pen colour. The 3Doodler works in a very straightforward manner. Stopping the continuous flow of filament before itís too late can be practice. However, with a little bit of practice, the operation of the pen gets easier and fun. It doesn’t just get into the way when you are drawing but you also need to carefully consider where you are doodling. This STEAM toy instills creative confidence through its tactile tech, made for inventive, educational play, children can gather inspiration from hundreds of stencils, projects available online or via the 3Doodler Mobile App to open their minds to problem-solving in a fun, exciting way, with built-in hands-on learning opportunities. Its hands-free design thanks to the battery-powered system allows you to draw freely, and you are not stopped by a wire like with the Create+. I enjoyed the range of filament colors (there's even a clear plastic one, which looks sweet) but you can't really change them out until you use the current filament up or reverse it out of the pen, which is time-consuming. I found it easier to create designs with just one or two colors.

The pen comes with 50 filaments of plastic in various colors that equal 400 feet of plastic. You power up the pen and then wait for it to heat up before using it. This process takes about 60 to 90 seconds. A light switches from red to green when it's ready to go. They allow kids to express themselves, and with some guidance from adults, children can familiarize themselves with 3D printing. Where Can You Use The 3Doodler Pens? So, make sure that you start out with a few simple things first to keep the learning curve for you and your kids as flat as possible. A cordless experience would have been better. Alternatively, I would’ve accepted the power port being more towards the bottom, where the plastic loading port is, and the loading port moved closer to the top; this would keep the two areas separate and get the cord out of the way a bit.

On / Off Switch

The Start+ pen is aimed at children between the ages of 6 and 13. This also reflects in the cheaper price. Along with the high and low temperature settings, you can adjust the extrusion speed to fast and slow with the two buttons at the bottom of the pen, ideally right where your index finger would be as you draw. Another feature we didn’t like was the cable which was often in the way and we had to constantly move it to freely create our 3D piece.

The 3Doodler filament speed control feature is one of the reasons that make the 3Doodler Create popular on the market. With this feature, you can draw continuously for up to two hours. This is a great feature if you are making complex 3D models. I tested the Juku 3Doodler (my first time using one) and had a lot of fun with the product, even though I realized early on there was definitely a learning curve. Despite its name, the 3Doodler works best when you have a plan in mind. Drawing in 3D is a skill that will be new for most people. In my initial attempts with the 3Doodler, I defaulted to writing in 2D. But the process gets easier every time you use it. The last challenge comes in switching colors. If I removed a plastic strand and put in a new one of a different color, the two colors mixed. When I switched from ABS red to PLA white, the resulting extrusion was very light pink for almost the entire white strand. The only way I found to avoid this is to remove the loaded plastic and then continue using the pen so you can finish up the part that remains in the tip. But you’ll just end up wasting plastic if you need to move to a new color immediately. If you are planning to use the 3D pens with your kids, then it’s a good idea to manage expectations.People might not want to take kissing selfies in front of it, but my Eiffel Tower is erect and should last on my countertop. I don’t see how I could’ve created something like this with my hands. You could clearly see imperfections and misalignment and someone more talented or patient would have done better. But with the dangling thread that tended to come up and the gloppiness of the clear, this is the best I could manage while still having fun. When the pen is heating up, the ring is red. When the pen is ready for use, the ring is either green or blue. When you heat up the 3D pen for the first tip, some light fumes may come off from its tip. Looking at all the features, design, performance and price, it’s clear that the Create and Start are quite different.
